A root canal is a treatment used to repair and save a tooth that is badly decayed or becomes infected. There are tiny canals within the tooth that may become infected. This leads to the pulp inside the tooth also becoming diseased. During a root canal procedure, the nerve and pulp is removed and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed. The canals are then filled and the tooth receives either a filling or a crown.
