Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is a procedure in which a plastic resin is applied to the front surface of a tooth. This procedure is used to whiten stained teeth, lengthen short or chipped teeth, and fill in gaps between teeth.

Bridges

When a tooth is lost, the surrounding teeth could shift causing a change in your bite which may result in sore jaws, gum disease or decay. Therefore, it is essential to have a replacement tooth inserted. Bridges offer this kind of replacement. A dental bridge consists of a false tooth which is fused between two porcelain crowns to fill in the area left by a missing tooth. The two crowns holding it in place that are attached onto your teeth on each side of the false tooth. This procedure is used to replace one or more missing teeth.

CEREC

CEREC is an innovative technology used to restore damaged teeth in a single visit. CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration in Esthetic Ceramics and is a high tech computer and milling machine used to manufacture tooth restorations, like crowns, inlays, onlays and veneers. Without the use of the CEREC machine, these restorations would have to be made in a dental lab and the patient would have to make an additional visit to our office. Chairside means the dentist can provide the treatment (crown, veneer, etc.) in one visit. Ceramic refers to the final product - a nonmetallic restoration which is bonded to the existing or remaining tooth structure. As such, CEREC restorations are extremely durable and natural looking.

Crowns

Dental crowns, also known as dental caps, are coverings that fit over teeth. Crowns cover weak, damaged or discoloured teeth. They are usually made of gold, porcelain, or a combination of both. Crowns add strength, durability and tooth stability to the affected tooth.

Dentures

Dentures, also known as false teeth, are removable replacements for missing teeth and surrounding tissues. Two types of dentures are available ññ complete and partial dentures. Complete dentures are used when all the teeth are missing, while partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain.

Fillings

Fillings are used to treat cavities as well as repair cracked, broken or worn down teeth. To treat a cavity, the decayed portion of the tooth is removed and then filled with a composite resin which is colored to look like the natural tooth.

Dental Implants

Dental implants replace missing natural teeth with natural-looking, natural-feeling titanium ones. Tooth loss can create several problems. One's nutrition may suffer, as foods once enjoyed become too hard to chew. The remaining teeth must do the work of the missing tooth (or teeth) and often become strained and damaged. The jawbone may also suffer, as the absence of teeth can cause it to weaken or shrink. Fortunately, dental implants can combat tooth loss and allow the patient to go on as before the tooth loss occurred.

Porcelain Onlays and Inlays

Onlays and inlays are harder and more durable than white composite fillings. An inlay is a lab processed, one surface filling, such as on the top of the tooth. An onlay is a lab processed inlay that provides bracing around the sides of the tooth. This is an ideal restoration as it helps to prevent the tooth from splitting or cracking. It is almost like a little hat.

Laser Dentistry

Our office offers state of the art technology including laser dentistry. Traditional dentistry requires the use of a rotary tool that has many useful attachments (such as cleaning brushes, drills, and sanding heads). All of them require rough physical contact which sometimes causes a patient discomfort. Laser dentistry eliminates many of the common complaints of traditional dentistry. A laser device replaces the rotary tool and can be used for everything from surgery to tooth bleaching. A laser doesnít make any noise and it doesnít require physical contact with your teeth. There are four ares of dental care in which lasers are used in our office. These include: cavity removal, curing or hardening bonding materials, teeth whitening, and periodontaor gum related care.

Root Canals

A root canal is a treatment used to repair and save a tooth that is badly decayed or becomes infected. There are tiny canals within the tooth that may become infected. This leads to the pulp inside the tooth also becoming diseased. During a root canal procedure, the nerve and pulp is removed and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed. The canals are then filled and the tooth receives either a filling or a crown.

Sealants

Sealants are a thin, plastic coating painted on the chewing surfaces of teeth ññ usually the back teeth in order to prevent tooth decay. The painted on liquid sealant quickly bonds into the depressions and grooves of the teeth forming a protective shield over the enamel of each tooth.

Although thorough brushing and flossing can remove food particles and plaque from smooth surfaces of teeth, they cannot always get into all the nooks and crannies of the back teeth to remove the food and plaque. Sealants protect these vulnerable areas from tooth decay by "sealing out" plaque and food.

Teeth Whitening

Teeth become discoloured over time for a variety of reasons: coffee, tea or tobacco consumption, antibiotic use, excessive fluoride, or simply age. Teeth whitening is a safe and popular form of cosmetic dentistry. According to the American Dental Association, 96% of users report a whiter smile. Our office provides patients two options for teeth whitening:

  1. In-office bleaching
  2. At-home bleaching

1. In-office bleaching consists of the application of a bleaching agent to the teeth and the use of light or heat to catalyze the agent. The gums will be protected from the bleach by either a gel or a rubber shield.

2. At-home bleaching requires a peroxide-based bleaching solution which bleaches the tooth enamel and a custom mouth tray for the patient. The custom tray ensures that the correct amount of whitening solution is used and that the patient's teeth are properly exposed to the whitening solution. A home whitening session lasts for several hours, during which time the patient will have the tray and solution in his or her mouth. This routine is followed for two to three weeks.

Veneers

Veneers are used to cover gaps, reshape chipped teeth or whiten stained teeth. They provide one of the most natural-looking and long-lasting whitening options available.
